The lens assembly is really not all that big. This particular has a 20x optical zoom. There are two motors and a voice coil type positioning motor on the lens assembly. The zoom and focus are motor driven worm drives and the iris employs a spring loaded (iris normally closed) voice coil 'motor' that slides the iris open to allow more or less light onto the CCD.
