This is the back piece. You only need to remove this part if you are taking the lens assembly off, otherwise it can stay on and power the unit while it's apart. The CRT won't work without the LCD panel side attached though as apparantly when it's disconnected the camcorder thinks the LCD is open and therefore does not power up the CRT. You can use the A/V out and connect it to a monitor while servicing though.
