When I took the gas valve apart, I was rather startled and amused to find a black Marrette inside one of the chambers. If you look at the center of this picture and slightly north-west, you can see the bottom of a black Marrette, upside down in a cylinder. "Oh," my dad chuckled as I showed it to him, "I put that in there a few years ago because the thermostat wasn't working." Only my dad would jam an electrical component into a gas valve and make it work by doing so...
