Jason and I tried to install a 'new' deck and speakers in Luke's Jimmy. We got everything hooked up when we discovered that the output IC in the deck, the one that amplifies the sound that comes out the four speakers in the vehicle -- was fried. This was probably the reason he got the deck for free in the first place, but now it posed quite a problem. I found a deck (actually it was his older one) that was the same brand but a different model (DEH-245) and we took it apart to see if it had the same chip that we needed. As luck would have it, the chips were identical so we pulled the chip out of the older deck, put it in the new one, and voila. He now has a great-sounding stereo in his vehicle. I was very pleased with the results because while I kept bestowing all confidence that this would solve the problem throughout the operation, I had really never done anything like it before and couldnt say with any certainty that it wasn't just going to blow up as soon as we turned it on. But all went well and he was very happy.
