And The Ability To See Clearly
Contemplation

Off the top of my head I'd say this was a day of contemplation; a day to reflect. My brother and his wife gave me a very interesting audio CD for my birthday called The Next Story - talking about life after the digital revolution. We forget very quickly that the technology that has engulfed us did not always exist. In fact, in the grand scheme of things it has existed for a mere fraction of time. Yet try and imagine life without the Internet, cell phones and email. Even as I write this, I wonder at the technologies my kids will never have known not to exist. Do we own our gadgets or do they own us? This small EEE PC is keeping me out of bed writing these thoughts down for the world to read. Why do we care so much about about posting our thoughts and ideas, however mundane and unremarkable, for the world to see?

I have hundreds of pictures to post, and will get around to it soon enough I suppose. The babies are both walking most of the time now, and talking more than ever. I can't believe how fast they are growing and this is only the beginning. Kristi's surgery was a complete success. She can see with 20/20 vision now and loves re-discovering the use of her eyes. Simple things like being able to see while taking a shower or having useful peripheral vision allow me to share in her joy as she begins to enjoy what most people take for granted: vision freedom. While not fully the stereotypical soccer mom, swimming lessons, piano and gymnastics add to the busy-ness of our lives. Anyway, I will refrain from sleep no longer. Goodnight.

Technology

A sunset behind me

Driving home yesterday I paused for a moment to glance in the side view mirror. Traffic was nearly at a standstill; I was tired; it had been a long day. Yet what I saw captivated me. I pulled out my camera and snapped a quick shot through the window, through the mirror, of the beautiful sunset and skyline that was settling behind me. Of course, had I merely sat there, drumming on the steering wheel as I often do, staring intently at the brake lights of the vehicle in front of me - I would have missed seeing this gorgeous sunset. It caused me to wonder how many times I've been staring straight ahead - either literally or figuratively - and missed something either around me or even behind me.

Technology. Back to the subject at hand. Presently I am waiting for technology to complete a task I have assigned to it. A diagnostic report is being generated by various pieces of high technology that unfortunately, are not working as they should. Has anyone ever experienced this? I discovered that when I listened to that book on CD my brother gave me, it must have played the tracks out of order for although I had listened to the beginning and the end, there seems to be more [chapters] now playing as I listen on. Even that amused me - for the chapter I listened to this morning talked about the way every technology brings with it benefits and risks.
