Journal Entries for September 2000

September 4, 2000

I had quite a shock and surprise today. I woke up, and have just sort of pottered around the house, cleaning this, sorting that. I ended up going back to bed for a few hours and waking up later this afternoon. I got a message from Lucie, asking me how to burn music CD's from mp3 files. And then, out of the blue, she asked me if I knew Shauntel from Pine Lake! That was a surprise. It turns out, Rick, her new husband, works for Shauntel's dad! And suddenly all the pieces fit together. Shauntel's mom asked me one night at Pine Lake if I knew Rick Stokel, but I had never heard his last name so of course, answered No. But Lucie did tell me once that one of the guys Rick worked with was helping to build the new store at Sandy Cove. But I never found out who that was. So it turns out that Lucie and Rick know them quite well, have been out in their boat, and so on. And if that didn't make the world just a little bit smaller, one time when I was over at Lucie's house, she had a lady on the phone with a computer problem, a friend of hers. She decided to put me on, so I talked her through whatever it was. Well it turns out that that lady was Cherell's mom, Cherell of course, is the blond girl who works in the store! Is that not just crazy? But anyways, about the weekend, I thought this was the wind downer, but it turned out to be next weekend. This one was cold, wet, and rainy the whole time, and although I had a good time, Ed and Barb wanted to come home yesterday and since I came up with them, I also came back with them. But us "kids" had a good time, Sean followed me around all weekend, as usual. Its interesting, because it seems that the kids up there never run out of things to do. No matter what the weather is like, I don't think I've ever seen anyone sit around being bored. Saturday we went in to Red Deer and bought a few things, myself, I bought a tarp and some rope for my tent and devised a great setup to keep my tent dry. Sean bought a small basketball and we played catch for several hours over the course of the weekend. Kristen has some friends that camp there every weekend too so we didn't see much of her, but Kevin was usually not hard to find. The Seadoo sat on the beach all weekend. The only thing I used it for was to check the temperature, and found that it was 10 degrees. Shauntel's family didn't come up, I guess they saw the forcast and realized it was going to be a misrable weekend, weatherwise. I brought Jason's air matress up with me, and it made a huge difference sleeping in the tent as I was. Its funny though, I never need an alarm clock because the three of them, Kristen, Kevin, and Sean, always come down to my tent and wake me almost bang on at 10:00 every morning... They're great. Too bad there isn't a snooze button though... I had a good weekend though, and one more to go! This next weekend should be fun, it IS the wind downer. I've never been to one, but I signed up for darts and the Pig Roast. Everyone said its good, so why not give it a try. There's nowhere else I'de rather spend a weekend, and it will be the last chance I get probably this year. I still can't believe that Lucie knows all those people. Its such a small world! And with Tyler living right across the back alley from me? Could this world get any smaller!?!
